Top 10 Marketing Questions & Answers

Why Does My Competitor Outrank Me On Google?

Let’s start with a confession first. I am sure you already tried to google your own company on Google, right? Unless you are heavily investing in SEO, chances are the results you’ve got weren’t really what you were expecting. Even worse is that you may have seen your competition ranking higher for the same keywords, and now you are scratching your head.
Why does my competition outrank me on Google?
While you are in your browser, jump onto Google and type your company name into the search field and hit search. What do you see? Well, since it was a branded search, you will be on the first page, ranking pretty well. Do you see any of your competitors there? Maybe a few but not many.
Now let’s try to shake things up a little. Try “area of interest/business + location” so it would look like “Hair Dresser Dallas, TX” So who is in the top position, and who has the second and the third in the line? Now let’s stir things up again and try to search for more keywords. Now what comes up? If you take a closer look, you may discover a pattern. Someone in your niche, in your area is constantly outranking you for every keyword you searched for.
Back in my early years, I didn’t put much thought into SEO or why it’s important to rank higher than the competition. I just simply used Google as intended. If I wanted a service, I typed it into the search bar and contacted the first company that popped up on my screen. Now, I can tell by simply looking at a website if they are investing in SEO and why they rank lower or higher than others.
Google is smart. They collect data and provide their users with the best possible webpages that are related to their searched keywords. Some of the areas of criteria they look at are:
• Website security
• Mobile Phone Browser Compatibility
• Content quality
• Content length
• Page speed

Website security:
There are three layers to website security and data protection. These can protect the users’ connection and prevent them from being victims of data theft. These layers are:
• Encryption – Users activity is tracked and prevents data theft
• Data integrity – Protects against data loss when files being transferred
• Authentication – protects against attacks

Mobile Phone Compatibility
It’s very important to compare the desktop and the mobile version of your website. You want to make sure that the same content in the same high quality is available on both platforms. Also try to adjust your URLs accordingly as well. Most likely, your mobile version will have 70-90% of the overall traffic. Better pay attention to it, and predominantly optimize for mobile.
Content Quality
High quality in a nutshell: No spelling errors, grammatically correct, well written, and relevant to the topic of your website. If you can provide this to Google, you are halfway through to the top of their search results page.
Content Length
It’s very important to have your website filled with quality and interesting, informative content. Most businesses don’t use a blog feature, which is crazy in my opinion. With a blog or a long article, you can convey your message in 600-1000 words and include so many of the keywords you want to rank for. Just ask BLU Digital Solutions, a marketing company who also knows about the importance of quality informative content.
Page speed
Your website speed can impact how many people you reach and convert. The average loading speed for a website is recommended to be at least 3 seconds or less. The average internet user has an attention window of 7 seconds. This means he or she makes the decision in 7 seconds, whether they want to stay on a website or leave. Your website should be quicker than seven seconds, period.
So, in conclusion. If you go back to the search bar and see your competitors’ company highlighted higher than yours for every keyword that means they are heavily investing in SEO. G3 Agency, a leads company in the US tested many strategies and would agree that the time it takes to be found for SEO is relative to how long you can create a positive user experience on the website.

How can I get my business listed on Google Maps?
Let me tell you a quick story that happened to me recently. I was in town on a business lunch. After my meeting I decided to surprise my wife, so I googled “flowers shops” in google maps. Since I was already within the Google Maps app, I just simply asked for directions and got the flowers. Imagine all those flower shops that are not on Google Maps. They just missed the chance to attract me to their business because of that.
Did you know that 30% of mobile searches are related to location? Well, this information brings up the question. Are you listed on Google Maps? Believe me when I say, getting your business listed on Google Maps is the best thing you can do for your business. It can drive traffic to your website, increase the number of phone calls and potentially get more people interested to connect with you.
Okay, but how can I get my business listed on Google Maps?
In a few simple steps it looks like this:
1. Go to “Google My Business”
2. Add or Claim your business
3. Fill out your business information form
4. Verify your business
5. Confirm your business
6. Check details and implement SEO
Let me break these down for you in a few short sentences.
Google My Business
First you need to type Google My Business into google and click on the first link. Then sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a google account, feel free to create one for yourself.
Add or Claim your business
If you are in business for a while now, and established yourself well, there is a chance that your business is already listed on Google Maps. In this case, all you have to do is claim it. Try typing your company’s name into their Business Name search bar, and it should show you a few suggestions based on the keywords you typed in. If your business is there just claim it. If Google doesn’t suggest anything, then you need to add your business to their directory yourself. So, just go ahead, fill out the form and go to the next step.
Fill out your information
Make sure your address, phone number, website, and business name is the same as it’s on your website, in the same format, and correctly spelled. If you used “str.” instead of “Street” on your social media and website, please make sure it’s spelled the same way on Google Maps. Also pay attention when you choose a category to your business. This is crucial, because Google will use this metric to classify your business.
Verify your business
Google will make sure that your business is located where you said it was. So they will simply send you a postcard with a pin.
Confirm your business
When you received the postcard, just follow the instructions that are printed on the letter that it comes with. The postcard can take up to two weeks to arrive, so be patient. Once you confirmed your business, it could take another 24 hrs for the verification to go through. There is nothing else you need to do just simply search for your own business on Google Maps and see if you show up.
Check details and implement SEO
Every once in a while just take some time to check if all details are correct. If you changed your address, or phone number, make sure you update it in Google My Business. You don’t want to miss out on potential customers just because you forgot to update your info. Once all is done all you need is to implement some SEO magic and you are good to go.

How Can I Use Social Media for My Local Business?

Social media is an awesome tool to use for business growth. For local businesses it is a valuable asset to connect with local audiences. Do it right and it will work for you. Do it wrong and it can backfire and ruin your reputation.
Here are a few tips to help you succeed.

1. Build an audience
People love to share their opinions and socialise with like-minded people. We hang out with people who support the same basketball team, watch the same movies or listen to similar music. Using a well-known service or purchasing from the same brand is no exception. Imagine that you have control over such a group by gathering them together and talking to them in the “language” they love. Social Media is the perfect tool to help you build an audience for your business. There are many platforms to use this feature on by the way. Maybe the most popular ones are Facebook and Twitter. It’s easy to set up and with the help of experts you can be way ahead your local competition.

2. Create a brand
We all have favourites. We have a favourite drink, a car brand we trust, and lines of clothes we love. But why? We are loyal to brands that we had great experiences with, or we trust because they are strong. I am sure you would more likely invest into a Sony stereo than into a knock-off Chinese brand from Wish.
Why? Because Sony has a strong brand. They are widely recognised and very well known for quality.
Imagine that your business could outperform your competition in no time by only using a Social Media presence and a loyal following you built. It’s never too late to start branding. In fact, this is what you should do first when you start a business. It might sound like a long shot but with our help you could be the no.1 on your potential customers’ list.

3. Use Facebook ads
Did you know that the average American adult spends minimum 59 minutes on Facebook every day? Did you know that 80% of the US population has a Facebook profile and actively uses it every day? That’s a lot of potential customers isn’t it? Why would you want to miss out on an opportunity to talk to them and put your business in front of them? Facebook ads can be tricky to set up, and if you don’t have the know-how it could cripple your wallet too. I would suggest seeking expert advice first but utilise this amazing tool for your advantage. Your competition might be already doing Facebook ads, so you don’t want to miss out don’t you?

4. Use the right tools
Abraham Lincoln once said:
“if you would ask me to cut down a tree in 6 hours, I would spend the first 4 hours by sharpening my axe.”
Tools are very important because they can save you time and the headache that comes with being involved with Social Media. It’s a world of numbers to analyse, reviews to respond to, and schedules to follow. Once your following grows your social media pages will consume more of your time and resources. In fact, there is a huge number of available software and tools for all needs and platforms. It’s not easy to choose the best tools for your current needs, and your requirements and budget might change over time but if you ask for expert help on this case it will save you time and headache. There are, landing pages, post schedulers, filters, chatbots, lead generators and the list goes on. I’ve seen businesses that literally automated their social media by using a service or software. Don’t be afraid to ask for help on this topic. It’s for your advantage at the end of the day.

5. Hire someone to do it for you
I left the best for last. I am no expert when it comes to fix cars, but I can change a tire and check the oil if need be. Small, easy to fix issues, no problem. However, if there is a service to be done or something serious like a gearbox to be changed, I will definitely leave it to the experts. Same applies to social media. We tend to think that we can use the same methods on our business pages that we use on our personal profiles. The truth is, it’s all wrong. Two different worlds, both requires two different approaches. Leave it to the experts and let them take care of it for you.

How Do I Get Found For The Right Keywords?
So, your website is up and running. You spent the last few weeks, even months improving the looks, the content, your articles, and hope that all this hard work pays off. After spending time and money to put all this together you still find yourself struggling with getting more traffic to your website and more customers through the door. Yeah, we know that feeling…
In our opinion there are many reasons why you haven’t yet enjoyed the fruits of your hard labour. One of the biggest mistakes we see in business when it comes to SEO, is that many business owners refuse to admit that the keywords they are using are not suitable to represent their message.
It’s imperative to utilise keywords in your content and find the best ones so you will get found for them on Google.
Okay, but how do I get found for the right keywords?
Let me clear the mist for you on this topic.
We already mentioned on our page, that the way you will be discoverable on search result pages depends on many factors. Your keywords are one of those key factors, along with how user friendly your website is, if it’s compatible and easy to use on mobile, how fast your page is, and so on.
The higher you rank the more chance you have to get found by potential clients and customers.
Now, the focus of this article revolves around keywords, so let me tell you the two most important things you need to keep in mind:
• Stick to keywords that are relevant to your business, related to your services, and relatable to your clients. There is no point in attracting users to your page who are not interested in what you have to offer them.
• Content is king! Make sure your content satisfies the users’ intent. They searched for something that you should provide them. There is nothing more harmful for your SEO, and disappointing for the users, than alluring them with clickbait titles and providing something completely different to what they were looking for.
If you take closer look at your current keywords and examine them well, you will discover that some of them are too generic, maybe too long, or totally irrelevant. There are plenty of keyword search tools on the internet. Even Google has its own < insert link here
For example, if you are running an MMA gym, why would you use broad keywords like nutrition, or fitness? Instead, you should root for words like grappling, or UFC
Back in the day, a successful website had a 1000 words long article that they packed full of keywords, and they called it a day. Well, doing that will definitely backfire now. Some sources say the best keyword density should be between 3-5%. So instead of stuffing your website, articles, pages with keywords, try focusing on providing high quality content in a transparent manner, and natural language.
Remember! Always write for your visitors, clients, prospects, not for search engines.
In conclusion, you will get discovered for the right keywords if you research the best and most relevant ones for your business, and actively use them to convey your message to your audience, while also providing them with value.

How Can I use Video to Tell My Story?

We as humans, love stories. In fact, we are story junkies. This is the reason we read books, watch films, or even get together with friends. We are hooked on stories because they resonate with our lives.

Just think about this for a second.

When you see your friends, you are telling a story to them about your life and listen to their stories about theirs.

It works the same way in business as well. Let me prove that to you.

Studies show that by the year 2024,
80% off all online sales will be made by using some form of video in the process.
Businesses use video on their landing pages, on their YouTube channels, even on their Facebook and Instagram.

The human eye follows movement all the time, and more attentive towards moving images then still pictures. The next time you scroll on your Facebook feed, just pay attention to how many times you will stop for something. We bet 8 out of 10 times it’s due to a video being shown.

Why would you not utilise such a great tool in your business?

“But I am not comfortable on camera…”

None of us born to be movie stars, so don’t stress on that. The more natural and transparent you are, the more people will resonate with your message.

Videos are great tools because it takes no effort to watch a video. There is nothing to read, no flipping pages, or scrolling the feed is required. The beautiful marriage between moving picture and sound, will do the magic and you just must be YOU to grab attention.

We are in the 21st century, the best possible time for entrepreneurs. Social Media is growing fast with no sign of slowing down. Platforms like YouTube and Instagram made more millionaires than the TV industry ever did. Due to technology, it’s easier than ever to start producing content. All you need is your phone and a nice, well-lit environment and presto… You are on!

Of course, there are procedures to follow and guidelines to adhere to, but don’t worry we can help you with that.

We just dedicated a special section to this topic here on our website.

Will SEO Work For Me?
SEO or Search Engine Optimization, had a deep decline in reputation over the years. All this thanks to a small group of people who engaged in dishonest tactics, abused the system, making it harder to achieve success, for folks like you and me.
I would say, SEO is similar to Facebook Ads. You can’t point your finger on the one thing, or process that makes things work, and does the magic. The internet keeps evolving, and search engines continuously change their algorithms, so it’s a constant debate between experts to determine what exactly makes a website SEO friendly, and how a website is able to boost its traffic and reach.
Some say SEO is not even necessary, some swear it’s the only way forward. In fact you may even ask yourself the question: Does SEO really work?
Will SEO work for me?
The real question is: “Is there a way I can make SEO work for me?”
The short answer for both is definitely: YES. In this article I will also show you how SEO can help you, and why it’s important.
Don’t forget that we provide SEO services to businesses looking to boost their reach and traffic. Let’s start by defining why SEO is important. If you’d like to speak to an SEO expert, you can reach us at 719-219-7151
WHY SEO IS IMPORTANT?
There is an old saying on the internet: The best place to hide a dead body, is the second page of google search results. If you think about it for a second, literally nobody clicks through to the second or third page when they are looking for something.
The higher you rank in search results, the more likely someone is to click on your website. People have short attention spans, so when they are looking for a quick solution to their problem, they are attracted to the first few results they find.
SEO is the most effective way to reach this goal, and appear in the top results on a search page. This gives you the answer to the question I asked above.
WILL SEO WORK ACTUALLY WORK FOR ME?
As I mentioned above, SEO is not an exact science. The best tactics and methods that worked in 2017 may not work in 2020. Let’s say Google decides to change their algorithm in ways that it favors pages that have the dollar sign featured on their home page. In this case all the best practices, and tactics have to change to match that parameter.
Of course Google’s preferences are not as vague as I mentioned in my example, but I hope you get the drift. Any widely accepted methods that worked a few years ago may not work now, and that leads to speculations that SEO doesn’t work at all. If you are using outdated practices and advice, your website might simply fall short from ranking higher.
SEO only works well when you use up to date practices. When you apply these metrics, Google will simply grant you with increased website rankings that leads to an increase in traffic and results in more clients and conversions.

How long does it take for SEO to work?

In the early days of the internet, a successful website was nothing more than a bunch of keywords put together and presented in a 1000-word article. However, SEO today is more and more leaning towards natural language searches. This literally means, that people are more likely to search for questions, rather than a few keywords on their own. This phenomenon is related to the fact that, people are using technology like voice commands on Siri to ask a specific question. They are including more detail in their searches as well, so they can find their desired solution faster, and get more accurate results.

These key phrases are more useful for a content creator from an SEO point of view. Because these longer, more specific keywords are not competitive, and more relevant, they are easier to rank for, and in consequence to that, they are more likely to convert on a higher rate too.

So, to put it in one sentence: The objective, in order to rank higher on Google, is not to rank for keywords that remain the same over time, but to focus on quality content for larger number of natural language searches, which are constantly growing and evolving rapidly.

So, what’s the answer then to:

How long does it take for SEO to work?

The answer is…it depends.

I know it hurts, but it’s the truth. Yes, it depends on so many things and I am going to break it down for you shortly and try to give you an exact(ish) estimate at the end.

Few things to note right from the beginning though. Not two websites are the same, nor starting from the same place, even if they are competing in the same space for the same prospects, client. The effectiveness of your SEO depends on the shape of your page, the amount of content it has, the age of your site – how long has it been active, the amount of links, the quality of links, keywords and so on.

When you are starting off, your main focus should be on research and discovery. Audit your website, and test your keywords, key phrases. Imagine that you are building your house. You need a strong foundation, don’t you? Well, this is your foundation, so treat it well, and invest your time and effort into research. It will pay off in the long run trust me. Usually this takes a month or less.

Right after the foundation is built, and you have a strong feeling that it’s near perfect, then you should concentrate on content creation. This means all your blog posts, articles, company information, FAQ pages, etc. This part of the venture can take the longest, usually months. However, if you have the means to invest into your content creation, the time required can be significantly lowered, so you can focus on the next step.

Slowly but surely you will start ranking for the keywords and key phrases that you implemented, and results will show as an increase in traffic, and maybe you will see leads building up. If you successfully implemented your social media strategy, your link building will start, and nurture the authority of your website automatically.

Many experts will tell you that it should take around 4 – 6 months to start seeing the fruits of your labour.  Think about this as a long-term investment of time and effort. The result you will see in 12 months will be significantly different (in a positive manner) of that you experienced at 6 months in.

So just keep at it and remember, SEO is a marketing tactic with the best return of investment in the marketing space.

What Are Links?
If you are new to the world of SEO, there are a lot of terms you will come across, and one of them keeps coming back to haunt you, because for some people it is really hard to understand its importance and means. The term we are referring to is: Link Building. Why is it so important? How do you get started with link building? Most importantly however, the daunting question always remains:
What are links?
In this article we will take a closer look at link building, and the certain type of links, and their benefits. We will also uncover the difference between good and bad links.
There are two ways all search engines use links in today’s day and age, and these are:
1. The use link to discover new webpages, websites.
2. To determine the rank of a certain page, and its position in their search results.
When a search engine finished crawling you site’s data, it will extract the content of your website into their index. This gives them the ability to decide whether a page is of sufficient quality, and able to rank well for the relevant keywords. On top of that they also rank your website based on the number of links pointing to a certain page, and the quality of those links from external sources. In short, it means that the more quality websites refer to your pages from an external source, the better your ranking will be. For example: if you are running a marketing website, and Forbes has an article where they mention you, and link to your website, you will be highly ranked, because Forbes has authority in its own niche.
The theory behind this is similar to a reference from a friend. Links from an external source are good indicators for the search engine, that it’s a good source. Like when a friend sends you to a good restaurant. They wouldn’t want you to have a bad experience do they?
So why is important to build links on your website?
To build relationships
Outreaching to another relevant website in your industry just like we did here for Web Design Savannah, and cross promote each other’s content is a very good strategy for link building. This allows your website to be highly regarded, and accepted as a trustworthy source by both search engines, and users as well. This literally translated to everyday terms means, you are outreaching to an influencer for a shoutout, and in return you do the same, and the vehicle to carry out the operation is your link. The more of these links you generated the more authority you generate too, as well as more traffic and at the end more conversions as a result.
Sending referral traffic / affiliate
With this method of link building you are taking part in a promotion of a service or product for a similar website like yours. The more guest posts, blogs you share within your niche the more authority and acceptance you build. If for example a small group of people on your website are interested in marketing a podcast and you share your thoughts on a course related to “how to get more traffic to my podcast” from related source as an affiliate, there is a high chance that the author of that course and website, will get more traffic from a source where passionate audience is waiting for the info with buying intent. So to convert these people are more likely than sending traffic to a large number of users by guest posting on CNN. It doesn’t matter if the latter has more users than the former. The quality of audience and links are more relevant in this case.
Brand building
To establish a brand and authority, link building is your best tool. Content creation is one aspect of link building, and has lots of benefits. For example if you create a piece of content based on a certain industry, and you collect the data and share this with users, it will show your expertise to people and makes it way easier for you to outreach to other website in that industry. This way you can ask people in your industry to share your content on their pages, and help you spread the word since you are already a well-known authority in your niche.
All this is thanks to links on your website. Start link building today! It’s definitely worth it.

How Often Does Google Update The Search Results?
I am sure you are asking this question because of two reasons:
1. Your website is not showing up in Google for keywords searched.
2. You recently made a change to your website, and you noticed that Google didn’t crawl your content for updates.
The main thing you need to take into consideration is that, google search results are constantly changing. In this article we will talk about a few things that may sound scary first, but don’t worry I will explain everything to you from Googlebot Crawls to Indexing.
How Google finds and crawls your site
If you really want to know how long it will take Google to notice changes made to your site, and then reflect these changes in the ranking results, then the answer is:
When the Google Crawl bots crawled your site and included the changes in their index.
If you want to check these occurrences by frequency, you can do that by examining your crawl stats in Google Webmaster tools.
This tool will give you a snapshot of how often Google visited your website, and how often they are revisiting it.
To fasten up this process there are a few factors involved, that you can monitor and help the indexing process. These are:
1. The authority of your domain: Ranked on a scale from 1-100. This predicts how well a website is ranked in the search results.
2. 2. The authority of a page: Same score applies from 1-100 and affects the search results in the same manner as domain authority does.
3. Content frequency and schedule: This is basically the frequency at which you post new content to your site. The more the better.
4. The popularity of your website: The amount of traffic you are generating in a certain period of time. Click through rate to your site via links and search results. And the amount of time users spends on your site. These all in combination, will affect the crawling and indexing time and figures.
To see rank changes can take between 30 seconds to 4 weeks to be honest. Nobody can tell you exactly how long it takes, and most of the time this figure changes, depending on type of niche and website.

Let’s clear the fog on a few important terms, so you will understand the process better.
What is:
Googlebot: is an algorithm or software if you like. Google sends these out to collect data on the internet, to index them to Google.
Crawling: is the process where a before mentioned Googlebot is going around from site to site to find updates, and report the findings back to Google.
Indexing: is the processing of the data collected by the Googlebot from the crawling activities, and once the information is processed, then they are added to the searchable index by Google. Of course this happens only if the bots find it quality content.
As I mentioned many times before: Google is clever.
It uses the last saved data as a starting point when it comes to comparison between new content and old. As the Googlebot does its job on a website, it compares pages and links and when they find something new, it’s added to the index for review.
Conclusion
When you publish your site and it’s “out there” you will see gradual increases in traffic for sure. Don’t worry. Google will visit your site from time to time, and update its rank based on the factors I listed above. The more active you are, the higher your rank will be.
My advice is to create, and publish content at least once a month, and stay ahead of the game by updating your links regularly

Will Ads Help Me Gain Clients Fast?

The good old question that we get asked by our clients all the time. The short answer is YES. Ads will definitely have an impact on your business, and in most cases, they will boost your conversions and revenue as well. However, there are many factors to take into account when it comes to advertising in general.
Most businesses have little to no idea about optimizing ads, ad spend, targeting, ad copy, conversion and many more aspects of a successful campaign.
How do I start? Where do I start? What platform should I use? How much should I spend?
Questions everywhere but not many answers, right?
Let us break it down for you, so will get a better understanding on how ads can help your business grow and raise your profits.
1. Start by clarifying your goals
Are you interested to bring in more leads, and convert them in the back end? Will you sell in the front end with an offer, and collect leads in the aftercare phase?
These are important questions that you should be able to answer if you set your goals clearly.
Depending on the results you would like to achieve, the methods and platforms you could be using are different from on and other.
For example, Facebook is very useful for lead generation with a minimal budget, but Google Ads might be a better option, and could be more expensive if you are opting in for sales. Set your goals clearly and choose a platform accordingly.

2. Budget
Money makes money. Advertising is a long-term game that has a ripple effect, and must be executed perfectly, in order to aid your business effectively. With good optimizing, your ads could bring in better results, and save you money as well. It’s very important to know that the more you spend, doesn’t always mean that you will get better results. However, ad spend should be expected, and accounted for if you want to succeed. Because at the end of the day, you want to make a significant return on your investment, right? On a personal note, we are very proud to say that we managed to help numerous clients to optimize their budgets and bring in results without breaking the bank.

3. Ad copy, and targeting
Your copy and targeting can make or break your campaign. We had clients who came to us for help with their ads, and most of the time the issues we noticed were related to ad copy and targeting. Writing good, engaging copy is a very challenging task to do. Most businesses hire copywriters to do this for them, and this is what we would suggest to you too. Always rely on experts if you have doubts in your abilities.
Let’s say you have an amazing copy that resonates with your audience but now you need to specify who your perfect prospect is. What interests them? Where do they hang out? What do they like, how old are they and so on?
If your targeting is too broad you will burn money on your ads. If your targeting is laser sharp your campaign will reach more potential leads, buyers with considerably less money spent. Master targeting and ad copy and you will see amazing results. Actually, this is one of the most important metrics that we discuss with our clients in the first place.
In conclusion setting your goal, optimizing and understanding the targeting aspect and setting aside a budget for ads is crucial. Yes, ads will definitely help your business, but you need to do it right to avoid expensive mistakes.
Don’t gamble on your success! No business should have to take a chance on their marketing.
